Whole lotta shakin' goin' on...

So much going on here at DickMacInnis.com that it's hard to keep up with regular updates. As such, I've got some big news concerning several of the new things I've been working on:

Dream Studio Website updated

Some of you may have noticed that this website has been updated recently. I've changed the layout, added some new sections, and most importantly added some spam filtering for the forum (I cleaned out over 20,000 pieces of spam).
Unfortunately, while I was doing this, I inadvertently screwed up the captcha settings, so it seems for the last couple weeks no one has been able to post comments or forum topics, or even create an account with which to do so. Sorry for the inconvenience - it's fixed now!

New Install DVDs available!!!

Here's a quick note to mention that  I've posted a couple new Installation DVDs for Dream Studio 12.04.

The first is an updated 32-bit ISO, which fixes a bug with lightdm that prevented a system from working once it was installed (though the live session on the old version worked fine).

12.04 iso doesn't install properly

So, I've had a chance to further test the 12.04 iso that I posted yesterday, and have noticed that while the live session works as expected, the system will not work once installed (only works in low graphics mode). I suspect that this is due to incorrect permissions in the /var directory, and am testing an updated version as we speak. Once a working version is ready, I'll replace the current iso, as there's no point hosting a broken iso file.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Dream Studio 12.04 is here!!!!

Dream Studio 12.04 is ready, with more features than I had planned, ahead of shedule.

There will probably be quite a few updates to packages in the next few days as I move them from the testing repositories to main, but mostly what I'll be working on now is the KDE and XFCE versions of Dream Studio. Stay tuned...

12.04 is almost ready....

I've been working hard to make Dream Studio 12.04 the best release yet; not only because it will be the first release in the new schedule (once every two years), but also because I have many derivatives, products, and other goodies in store that will be directly related to this major release.

Dream Studio 11.10 Status Update

For those users who may have been wondering what (if anything) is going on as far as development, here is my update:
Dream Studio 11.10 is very close to being done. Currently all the packages are ready, so it's just a matter of building the installation DVD, testing it, and uploading to our servers. Expect this release to be ready by Jan. 20 2012.

Feature Requests

Dream Studio 11.04 made its debut late last week, and has been hugely successful so far. When I posted the installation DVD, Dream Studio's total downloads to date (since Oct. 2010, when Dream Studio 10.04 - its first version - was released) were approaching 5000. Since Distrowatch posted our Dream Studio press release to their front page, downloads have skyrocketed, and downloads of just this latest version are approaching the 7000 mark, all in less than a week!

Changes Abound

While Dream Studio continues to support our 10.04 and 10.10 releases, many of you may be wondering what's happening in regards to our next release, based on Ubuntu 10.04. There are major changes on the way, so let me walk you through them.

Dream Studio to Include KXStudio Team Repositories

FalkTX's excellent KXStudio (a KDE based multimedia distribution based on Ubuntu) has recently opened a new set of PPAs for the KXStudio Team. They're chock full of new and up-to-date software, and will be included by default in the upcoming Dream Studio 11.04. This move will benefit the users of both distributions, as software currently available only on Dream Studio will be added to the KXStudio Team PPA's, making it available to KXStudio, while Dream Studio will gain the addition of several packages not currently available by default.
